Weddings at Summit Rock
Summit Rock is one of the most historically interesting of the popular wedding sites in Central Park. At 142 feet it is the highest point in the Park, and was actually developed as an overlook from which one could see across the Hudson River. At the top is a stone amphitheater, where you can go to watch a show — from Shakespeare in the Parks to Torah Stories.
Summit Rock has always been a gathering place, in fact this area of the park contained actual villages during the 1800’s.
More than 1,000 buildings dotted the landscape, most of them small dwellings but also taverns, barns, factories, and churches.
— NYC Parks.
There used to be a large statue of Simon Bolivar on the site which has been moved to Central Park South at 6th Ave where is still stands today.
Although the vistas remaining are only those of buildings, Summit Rock offers a large, private area for a wedding ceremony of up to 80 people. Located at 83rd St and Central Park West, it is one of the closest to the edge of the park and still feels remote and off the beaten path — even during weekends.
